USC Teams With LTRC And Rafu Shimpo For Downtown Showdown
Jan. 31, 2006
LOS ANGELES - The USC women's basketball program announces a promotional partnership with the Little Tokyo Recreation Center and the Rafu Shimpo, the nation's largest Japanese bilingual daily based in Los Angeles.
This unique partnership will sponsor a one-day event, tabbed 'The Downtown Showdown presented by the Rafu Shimpo,' in order to celebrate the rich tradition of women's basketball as well as raise funds and awareness for the Little Tokyo Recreation Center building project. It will take place in conjunction with the USC-Washington State women's basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The game will tip off at 2 p.m. at the L.A. Sports Arena. Gameday events will include a postgame autograph session and other in-game promotional activities.
Tickets for the Downtown Showdown presented by the Rafu Shimpo are $7 each, and for each $7 ticket sold through this promotion, USC will donate $3 per ticket to the Little Tokyo Recreation Center building fund, which is overseen by the Little Tokyo Recreation Center Community Development Corporation.
The Downtown Showdown will feature USC junior point guard Jamie Hagiya, an alum of local Japanese-American youth leagues, who is currently averaging 6.5 ppg, 3.5 apg and 1.8 spg and has started in nine games this season. The Women of Troy (13-7, 7-4) are currently tied for second-place in the Pacific-10 conference standings.
'We are proud to team up with the Little Tokyo Recreation Center and the Rafu Shimpo to present the Downtown Showdown,' said USC senior associate athletics director Carol Dougherty. 'Creating this event provides a unique platform for our basketball program and for the LTRC. We are delighted to enhance the connection between a very supportive local community, our Women of Troy basketball program and our University.'
