Cal Cruises to Victory Against Oregon State, 69-52
Feb. 2, 2006
Ayinde Ubaka had 14 points and seven assists for the Golden Bears (13-6, 7-3 Pacific-10).
Reserve Sasa Cuic had 21 points and a career-high 11 rebounds to lead Oregon State, but seniors Nick DeWitz and Chris Stephens were shut down for the second straight game.
The Beavers (10-11, 3-7) beat the Bears 72-64 at Haas Pavilion on Jan. 7 but were never in this game as they continue to struggle without point guard Lamar Hurd. The senior has missed five straight games with a groin injury
Beaver coach Jay John yanked all five of his starters with his team down 8-0 early, and it didn't get any better from there as California built a 21-2 lead. Midgley scored eight quick points for Cal and the Beavers missed 11 of their first 12 shots.
Oregon State's offense slowly came around, but the Golden Bears still carried a comfortable 39-26 lead into halftime.
Powe, the conference's second-leading scorer and top rebounder, tallied his sixth consecutive double-double and tenth on the year, and his rebound total was the highest in the Pac-10 this conference season.
The Bears outrebounded the Beavers 43-21 and held them to a season-low 32 percent from the field.
DeWitz finished with two points, nine off his season average, and Stephens, the Beavers' leading scorer at 14 per game, had five points.
