Men's Track Heads to Boise, ID for United Heritage Invitational

The UCLA men's track and field team will travel to Nampa, ID Friday, Feb. 3 through Saturday, Feb. 4 to compete in the United Heritage Invitational, hosted by Boise State. The meet will feature five Olympians - shot putters Jared Rome and Ian Waltz, weight throwers A.G. Kruger and Libor Charfreitag, and decathlete Brian Clay.
This weekend's meet marks the opening competition for the horizontal jumpers and top shot putters in the UCLA program. The sprinters and pole vaulters will also be in action this weekend, while the distance runners will not compete.
Competing in the shot put will be seniors Jake Knight and Jeremy Silverman and sophomore John Caulfield. In the triple jump, all three of UCLA's 50-foot plus jumpers will compete as sophomore Dominique Easterling and Michael Johnson, Jr., and senior Demetre Howard head to Idaho. That trio, along with freshman Alex Pearlstone, a top long jumper in high school, will also compete in the long jump.
In the sprinting events, Craig Everhart, ranked No. 11 on Trackwire's 'Dandy Dozen' in the 400m, will compete in the 200m, along with junior Brandon Johnson, sophomore James Rhoades and freshman Elijah Wells. Johnson is also scheduled to run in the 60m, but will be a meet day decision on whether he will run or not.
The MPSF Conference released the first best marks list of the season and several Bruins ranked in the top-5 in their events - Johnson in the 60m (2nd 6.82), Everhart in the 400m (1st, 47.04), Wells in the 400m (2nd, 47.68), senior Erik Emilsson in the Mile (1st, 4:03.76), the DMR (4th, 9:46.28), the 4x400 (1st, 3:08.84) and pole vaulters Shortenhaus, Murphy and Landers (5th, 16-0.75).
