California Falls to No. 13 Stanford

BERKELEY - The California women's gymnastics team posted its season-high score of 192.150, but could not keep pace with the No. 13 Stanford Cardinal, as Stanford blew past the Golden Bears 195.925-192.150 in the Big Meet on Friday night in Berkeley.
The Bears posted their season-best 48.300 on the vault. Junior Justin Cephus (9.700) and freshman Jessica Kelley (9.775) both posted career-highs, while sophomore Siobhan Luce (9.650) and sophomore Alli Szutu recorded season-high (9.525).
Cal started the meet strong with impressive scores on the vault. Cephus, Kelley and junior Isabel Garcia set career-highs on the vault. Cephus posted 9.525, while Kelley recorded a team-high 9.700. Garcia matched her career-high of 9.675 set twice in 2005.
Sophomore Siobhan Luce recorded a season-best in the all around competition with a 38.500. Luce recorded a season-high in all four events. She posted a 9.625 on the vault, 9.600 on the bars, 9.625 on the beam and a 9.650 on the floor. Kelley additionally posted a team-high 38.550 in the all around competition.
Freshman Lydia Williams tallied a team-high 9.800 (Williams' career-high) on the bars, and freshman Joanna Bennett recorded a career-high 9.775 on the bars. Also Kelley recorded a team-high 9.775 on the floor (Kelley's career-high).
The Bears will host UCLA, Sacramento State and UC Davis next Friday, Feb. 10 in Haas Pavilion. The meet is slated for a 7:30 p.m. (PST) start.
