No. 18 Cal Falls in Quarterfinals to No. 13 Duke

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 18 California women's tennis team fell to No. 13 Duke, 4-2, in the quarterfinals Friday afternoon, at the 2006 USTA-ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships being held at the University of Wisconsin's A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
Although Cal dropped the doubles point to begin the match, the Bears recorded two points on the singles court for the afternoon. 34th-ranked Sophomore Marion Ravelojaona, who was playing in the No. 3 singles spot, defeated Tara Iyer, 6-1, 6-2. Also tallying a victory for Cal, was freshman Claire Ilcinkas. Ilcinkas, who is ranked 83rd, outlasted Kristin Cargill, 6-4, 7-6 (5), playing No. 5 singles.
14th-ranked Suzi Babos fell to 27th-ranked Jackie Carleton, 6-3, 7-5, while playing No. 2 singles. Teammate Zsuzsanna Fodor, who currently holds a No. 19 singles ranking and was playing in the No. 1 singles position, was defeated by sixth-ranked Daniela Bercek in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
Cal (3-1) will face Miami (2-1) in a consolation match at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, which will be a rematch of last year's NCAA second round.
