CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Chris Hernandez had 22 of his 28 points in the second half to lead Stanford to a 71-64 win over Oregon State on Saturday, despite losing leading scorer Matt Haryasz to a first-half injury.

Nick DeWitz bounced back from two terrible games to score 17 off the bench for the Beavers, who lost for the fifth straight time.

The Cardinal (12-7, 8-3 Pacific-10) have won six in a row and eight of their last nine. Dan Grunfeld had 13 points for Stanford and Taj Finger added seven points and six rebounds.

DeWitz, who was replaced by Sasa Cuic in the starting lineup after scoring just six points in two games, scored 12 in the second half.

Cuic finished with 15 points and Wesley Washington added a season-high 11 for the Beavers (10-12, 3-8).

The Beavers, who fell behind to California 21-2 on Thursday, started slow again, as the Cardinal took a 22-8 lead. Stanford led by as many as 17 after a basket by Haryasz, but after Haryasz took a poke to the eye and left the game a few plays later, the Beavers went on a 12-4 into halftime to cut the lead to single digits.

With his eye swollen shut, Haryasz, averaging 19.3 points and 9.3 rebounds, never returned and Stanford wasn't the same without him.

The Cardinal commited 17 turnovers in the game, six of them Hernandez's and four by freshman forward finger.

But with Haryasz out, Hernandez carried the load on offense, hitting 7-of-10 shots and killing Beaver rallies with big plays.

Oregon State got within 46-41 at 14:12, after an eight-point flurry by DeWitz and a reverse layup by Washington, but the Beavers, reeling since losing point guard Lamar Hurd to a groin injury, weren't in a position to capitalize. After a timeout, Stanford went on a 6-0 run on baskets by Grunfeld, Hernandez and Finger.

Washington's fast-break layup at 2:59 got the Beavers within three for the first time since 9-6, but Hernandez, whose last second shot beat Oregon Thursday night, hit a 3-pointer and a 15-footer to give the Cardinal a comfortable lead with 1:30 left.
