Harnandez Tabbed Pac-10 Player Of The Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Stanford senior guard Chris Hernandez hasbeen named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's BasketballPlayer of the Week for January 30 - Feb. 5, Commissioner Tom Hansenannounced today.
Hernandez, who hails from Fresno, Calif., led the Cardinal to a roadsweep of the Oregon schools, averaging 24.0 points on 15-of-24shooting (.625). On Thursday, Hernandez hit a three-pointer with11.3 seconds left on the clock to give Stanford the 57-56 win overthe Ducks. He scored 20 points, including four three-pointers andwas a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. He also added threeassists, three rebounds, and a steal in 36 minutes on the court inEugene.
On Saturday, Hernandez scored a season-high 28 points to leadStanford to a 71-64 win over the Beavers. Hernandez shot 9-of-13 (.692) from the field, including 4-of-6 (.667) from beyond the arc and6-of-6 at the foul line, to take over for the Cardinal after theirleading scorer, Matt Haryasz, left the game with an eye injury in thefirst half.
Hernadez has now drained 21 straight free throws, dating back to Jan.26 vs. Washington State. In Conference play, the senior guard is 48-of-50 from the line (.960), and shooting .509 from three-point range.
Stanford (12-7 overall, 8-3 Pac-10) will travel to Bay Area rivalCalifornia on Thurs., Feb. 9, before facing No. 5 Gonzaga on Sat.,Feb. 11 in Spokane, Wash.
This is the second weekly honor for Hernandez and Stanford's 38thPlayer of the Week all-time.
