Women Of Troy Resume Competition At Local Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge

The No. 8 USC women's golf team will resume its 2005-2006 schedule in front of hometown fans when it plays in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge from Feb. 13-15 at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C. Led by senior Irene Cho and sophomore Dewi-Claire Schreefel, the Women of Troy will be competing in a 15-team field that features 12 teams ranked in the current Golfweek.com Top 25.
The field includes USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 Pepperdine, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 9 Vanderbilt, No. 15 Washington, No. 16 Stanford, No. 18 Arizona, No. 19 Ohio State, No. 21 California, 23 New Mexico, No. 25 Florida, Oklahoma State, Tulane and Wake Forest.
The three-day event will be held on the par 71 Palos Verdes G.C. (5,912 yards). First-round action is scheduled to begin with a 9 a.m. start Monday (Feb. 13). The second round is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday and the final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com. USC finished seventh at this event last season.
THE WOMEN OF TROY
Senior Irene Cho enters the Spring schedule as USC's top golfer from the Fall, posting a team-best 72.67 stroke average through Troy's first four tournaments. She finished second at both the Edean Ihlanfeldt and Kent Youel Invitationals, helping USC to a tournament title in the latter. She also finished fifth at the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Dewi-Claire Schreefel, who led USC with a 74.23 stroke average as a freshman in 2004-2005, is currently second on the team with an 18-hole average of 74.00. She posted two top 10 finishes in the Fall, tying for sixth at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invite and taking seventh at the Kent Youel Invitational.
Junior Catalina Marin is averaging 75.56 strokes per round and boasts an eighth-place tie at the Kent Youel Invitational. Sophomore Paola Moreno, senior Tanya Dergal, and junior Veronica Felibert are averaging 76.11, 76.17 and 76.25 strokes per round, respectively.
