In a combined effort in the circle, Lisa Dodd struck out three and Anjelica Selden struck out nine while Jodie Legaspi went 3-for-4 offensively in the game.

The Aztecs opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on a rally that started with a one-out single by Taryin Casillas. Casillas would go to second on a groundout and came home on a single just over the head of Bruin 2B Caitlin Benyi by Allison Smith to give San Diego State the lead.

UCLA came to bat in the top of the third as Ashley Herrera led off with a single and was replaced at the bag by Tara Henry, who hit into a fielders choice. An Andrea Duran bloop single that dropped just behind the third baseman for a hit. Krista Colburn then connected on an RBI single to score Henry and tie the game at 1-1. The Bruins were threatening to extend the lead on a ball ripped up the middle by Caitlin Benyi, but it hit Aztec starting pitcher Melissa Owens, went up in the air and was caught by SDSU first baseman before hitting the ground. Duran was doubled off of second base on the bizarre play to end the inning.
