U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week

WASHINGTON senior guard Brandon Roy was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week for his performance in Washington's victories over USC and UCLA.

Roy, from Seattle, Wash., averaged 22.5 points on 13-of-26 (.500) shooting from the field, 3-of-4 (.750) from three-point range and 16-of-20 from the free throw line. He also averaged 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

In the 87-73 win over USC, Roy collected his fourth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 10-of-15 (.677) from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. In the 70-67 victory over No. 13 UCLA, Roy scored 20 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed four rebounds. He was key at the free throw line, where he shot 13-of-16. He added a pair of blocked shots, including a block of UCLA's game-tying three-point attempt with one second remaining in the game. The win gave the Huskies their first season series sweep over UCLA since 1987.

This is the second weekly honor for Roy and Washington's 25th Player of the Week honor all-time.

PAC-10 NOTES

  • ARIZONA (15-9, 8-5)... The Wildcats reached the 80-point plateau Saturday for the seventh time this season and is undefeated when accomplishing the feat... The Wildcats forced Oregon State into 25 turnovers, including 16 in the first half, which marked the 13th time this season that UA had forced 20 or more turnovers in a game, but the first time in the last five games. On the season, Arizona forces its opponents into an average of 20.3 turnovers per game... The Arizona frontcourt has been productive over the last four games. Junior C Kirk Walters and junior F Ivan Radenovic have combined to shoot 48-of-70 (.686) from the floor and are averaging at least 28.8 points and 12.3 rebounds per game... Radenovic posted a career-high 26 points vs. Oregon State... In the last six games, Walters is averaging 10.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game, while shooting 75.0 percent (27-of-36) from the field.

  • ARIZONA STATE (9-13, 3-10)... Freshman F Jeff Pendergraph and freshman F Sylvester Seay each scored 21 points on Saturday against Oregon, the first time in ASU history two freshmen have scored 20 points in the same game... Pendergraph has 10 double-figure scoring games on the year. He is now averaging 10.3 points per game. In the past six games, he is averaging 15.2 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 36-of-66 (.545) from the floor in that time. Since the calendar turned to 2006, Pendergraph is averaging 12.4 points and 5.7 rebounds in those 11 games and is shooting 52.8 percent from the floor (56-of-106).... Junior G Kevin Kruger has played eight 40-minute games on the year, including four of the past five contests, and is averaging 39.4 minutes in the past 10 games. His 38.5 minutes per game season average is tied for top mark in ASU history with Stevin Smith (1993-94). Kruger went without solid food for over a week (Friday through Sunday) as he battled an infection to a tooth and played three games of 40, 40 and 39 minutes in that time.

  • CALIFORNIA (15-6, 9-3)... Sophomore F Leon Powe scored a career-high 32 points in Cal's win over Stanford. Powe's total was the most for a Cal player since Joe Shipp had 33 points at Washington State in 2003. Powe was 12-of-15 from the free throw line - the fourth time this season he's made 12 free throws in a game... Junior G Ayinda Ubaka has posted double-digit scoring totals in 11 consecutive games. He's averaging 17.0 points during that span of games... Cal continues to take care of the ball. It committed only four turnovers against Stanford, and has turned the ball over just 19 times in the last three games (6.3 turnovers per game). Cal has turned the ball over nine or fewer times on five occasions this season... The Bears' next opponent, Arizona, forces the opposition into 20.3 turnovers per game... The Bears are 6-0 on Thursdays in Pac-10 play.

  • OREGON (11-14, 5-8)... The Ducks lost five of their last six games by a combined total of 18 points. All five losses have come by seven points or less... Ten of Oregon's 13 Pac-10 games have been decided by 11 points or less. Then there's this: 13 of Oregon's last 18 games overall have been decided by single digits... Sophomore G Chamberlain Oguchi posted back-to-back 20 point games, scoring 20 points at Arizona and 21 points at Arizona State. He tallied most of his points from beyond the arc, shooting 12-of-23 (.522) from three-point range... Junior G Aaron Brooks needs seven assists to reach 300 for his career. Only eight Oregon players all-time have dished 300 or more assists... Sophomore G Bryce Taylor missed last weekend's action after suffering a hyperextended right knee in practice. Taylor's the third leading scorer on the team, averaging 9.3 points.

  • OREGON STATE (10-14, 3-10)... The Beavers are 1-7 in the eight games that senior G Lamar Hurd has missed due to groin strain. Their shooting percentage has slipped from a conference-best 50.2 percent through the first five Pac-10 games to 39.1 percent in the next eight, their three-point shooting has gone from 46.1 percent to 31.6 percent, and the team's scoring average in Conference play has dropped from 68.0 points to 60.1 points over the last six games... Sophomore F Sasa Cuic has led the Beavers in scoring in four of the last five games. During the past five games, Cuic is averaging 19.8 points. Cuic has made 24 of his last 44 three-point attempts (.545).... After being held scoreless for the first time this season at Arizona State, junior C Kyle Jeffers responded with a career-high 14 points at Arizona.

  • STANFORD (12-9, 8-4)... Senior G Chris Hernandez has made 28 consecutive free throw attempts. Hernandez is 53-of-55 (.964) from the charity stripe in league play... Hernandez is shooting 317-of-372 (.852) from the line for his career... Over the last four games, Hernandez is shooting 15-of-24 (.625) from three-point range... Senior F/C Matt Haryasz needs one point to reach 1,000 for his career. When he reaches that milestone, he'll become the 13th Stanford player to post 1,000 points/600 rebounds in a career... The Cardinal play four of their final six league games in Maples Pavilion where it was a perfect 5-0 in the first half of Pac-10 play.

  • UCLA (20-5, 10-3)... UCLA has posted a 20-win season for the first time since the 2001-02 season when the Bruins finished at 21-12. It's the 42nd 20-win season in school history, including 34 times in the last 40 years... . Freshman F Alfred Aboya scored a team-high 15 points (6-of-6 from the field), and grabbed eight rebounds vs. Washington... The Bruins are now 16-2 when outrebounding the opponent, losing only at Washington (+8 rebound advantage) and to West Virginia in Pauley Pavilion (+11 rebound advantage)... In the Bruins' 50-30 win at WSU, UCLA held the Cougars to an opponent season-low (.275, 14-51) from the field; UCLA's lowest opponent total since Feb. 17, 1967 (UCLA 34, at Oregon 25) and WSU's 30 points was the lowest ever at Friel Court.

  • USC (15-9, 6-7)... Sophomore G Gabe Pruitt, USC's second-leading scorer, will be out at least three weeks with a tibial plateau fracture in his left knee, injured in practice on Feb. 6. He is averaging 17.0 points and 4.2 rebounds a game and is second in the conference with 50 steals... Senior G Dwayne Shackleford came off the bench to score a season-high 15 points, hitting 4-of-5 three-pointers, at Washington. That earned him his first start of the season at Washington State where he responded with eight points and a season-high five assists.

  • WASHINGTON (18-5, 7-5)... With their win over UCLA, the Huskies have now won three in a row over the Bruins for the first time since 1952... The Huskies are two wins shy of posting back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since the 1984 (24-7) and 1985 (22-10) squads accomplished the feat... Washington has won 61 of it last 76 games (.803)... Freshman G Justin Dentmon is averaging 14.0 points over the last three games, shooting 14-of-24 (.583) from the field.

  • WASHINGTON STATE (11-10, 4-8)... Sophomore F Robbie Cowgill posted his first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds vs. USC... Freshman C Aron Baynes collected 40 rebounds through the first 17 games of the season (2.4 rpg). Over the last four games, he's grabbed 37 rebounds (9.3 rpg)... Sophomore point guard Derrick Low returned to action last week. He broke his right foot in practice, Jan. 3. Low came off the bench to log eight minutes of action vs. UCLA. He started two nights later vs. USC, picking up five points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal in 28 minutes.
