WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona senior pitcher Alicia Hollowell has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 7-13, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Suisun, Calif., native tossed two no-hitters against No. 16/15 Northwestern and No. 9/6 Texas A&M in the Wildcats' opening weekend at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Hollowell threw 18.0 shutout innings in three games, giving up only one hit to Cal-State Fullerton. Of the 57 batters she faced, Hollowell gave up one hit, one walk and one hit-batter. Thirty-six of the 57 batters went down on strikes, combining to hit 0.18 against her with a .053 on-base percentage. She now has 15 career no-hitters.
Also named the USA Softball Player of the Week for Feb. 6-12, Hollowell leads the Pac-10 in opposing batting average (.018) and batters struck out (36). She also is tied with four other pitchers with a 0.00 earned run average.
A three-time All-American, Hollowell was named the 2004 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, the 2003 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year and has been named first team All-Pac-10 three straight years. Entering her senior year at Arizona as its all-time leader in career strikeouts with 1,348, Hollowell needs only nine victories to tie fellow Wildcat Nancy Evans for most wins in school history and 15 to tie Keira Goerl of UCLA for the Pac-10 wins record.
