Troy In Lead, Cho and Moreno Tied For Second At Northrop Grumman

Behind senior Irene Cho's blistering 68 and sophomore Paola Moreno's 71, the No. 8 USC women's golf team finished in first place after the second of three rounds of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Tuesday (Feb. 14) at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C.
The Women of Troy, in their first tournament of the spring semester, finished with a combined 295 (+11) for the second lowest round of the day. They stand at 591 (+23), one shot ahead of No. 9 Arizona State (592), which finished with a 299 on Tuesday. Oklahoma State moved from sixth to third with a round-best 294 and is seven shots behind Troy (598).
Cho, who had a 75 on Monday, fired off her third sub-70 round of the 2005-2006 season with the 3-under 68. The round left her at 143 (+1) for the tournament, tied for second and one shot behind leader Sophia Sheridan of California. Cho's round featured four birdies, a bogey on 18 the only blemish on the day.
Cho is tied for second with Moreno, who followed Monday's 72 with a par 71. Moreno was +3 on Tuesday after 11 holes, but birdied three of the final seven holes to break even for the round.
Junior Catalina Marin is tied for 16th with a 152 (+10). She finished with a 78 on Tuesday after a 74 to open the tournament.
Sophomore Dewi-Claire Schreefel posted her second consecutive 78 to finish tied for 43rd at 156 (+14). Junior Veronica Felibert, who had a 75 on Monday, finished with an 83 on Tuesday, tied for 50th with 158 (+16).
Freshman Shelcie Takenouchi, competing individually, finished with a 79 in the second round for a total of 159 (+17). Stephanie Hickerson, also competing individually, had to withdraw.
