Women's Golf Claims Top Spot
Feb. 15, 2006
In the first tournament of their spring campaign, the Arizona State women's golf team placed first in the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge. Yesterday, the Sun Devils slipped into second place in the second round of play, only to come back to reclaim the top spot. ASU shot a 40-over 892 (293, 299, 300) for the tournament. This is the first, first place finish for the Sun Devils of the 2005-2006 season.
USC, California, Wake Forest and Oklahoma State rounded out the top five, respectively. USC's Irene Cho took individual honors after carding a one-over 214 for the tournament.
Individually, stand-out freshman Jennifer Osborn placed second in the tournament after shooting a two-over 215, one stoke short of placing first. Osborn placed first during the fall season at the Edean Ihlanfeldt tournament.
Fellow freshman Azahara Munoz tied for eighth place, shooting an 11-over 224. Alissa Kuczka shot a 13-over 226 to tie for 12th place. Tiffany Tavee tied for 16th after shooting a 14-over 227. Rounding out the Sun Devils, Charmain Erasmus tied for 60th after shooting a 27-over 240.
Next up, the Sun Devils travel down state to Tucson to compete in the Wildcat Invitational Feb. 20-21.
