CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Sasa Cuic scored 23 points and Oregon State snapped a six-game losing streak with a 71-62 win over Washington State Thursday night.
Derrick Low had 13 points and Chris Henry had a career-high 10 for the Cougars, who fell to Oregon State for the eighth-straight time at Gill Coliseum.
Marcel Jones added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Beavers (11-14, 4-10 Pacific-10), who had lost eight of their last nine games since losing point guard Lamar Hurd to a groin injury. Kyle Weaver had 10 points and five rebounds for the Cougars (11-11, 4-9).
Cuic released a statement Wednesday saying that he planned to return to Oregon State next season after rumors circulated that the Croatia native was considering leaving to play in Europe.
Cuic, a reserve for most of the season, was one point off his career high. He has led the Beavers in scoring in five of the last six contests to become to team's leading scorer on the year at 13.0 points per game.
Oregon State led 31-21 in the first half, but the Cougars went on a 22-7 run to take a 43-38 lead with 13:13 left in the second half. Oregon State tied the score at 47-all after back-to-back 3-pointers by Cuic and Chris Stephens, then went ahead after Cuic hit another 3 and added two free throws.
The Cougars cut the lead to 56-55, but the Beavers went on a 7-0 run with Jones hitting a 3-pointer and Cuic making a pair of free throws and a bank shot from the left side.
Low scored with 1:11 left to make it 64-59, but the Beavers hit enough free throws to keep the game out of reach.
Freshman Brett Casey, Oregon State's third point guard to start in place of Hurd, had career highs with seven points and five assists in 31 minutes.
