No. 15 San Diego Defeats Kansas, 17-6, At Public Storage Classic

LOS ANGELES --- Jordan Abruzzo and Shane Buschini had a home run and five RBI each Saturday as the No. 15 San Diego Toreros routed the Kansas Jayhawks, 17-6, in day two action at the Public Storage Baseball Classic. With a 5-4 lead after four innings, the Toreros scored 10 unanswered runs in the victory.
Buschini went 4-for-5 while Abruzzo went 3-for-4. Steve Singleton added a 3-for-6 performance as Matt Couch (2-0) earned the win for San Diego with 5 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two run on two hits.
San Diego improved to 7-1 on the season while Kansas fell to 6-4 overall.
Abruzzo hit his first homer of the season with a two-run shot to left in the second. Steve Singleton led off the third with a solo shot to right and an error by Kansas second baseman Ryne Price led to two more runs in the fourth as USD took the 5-0 lead.
The Jayhawks answered with four in the bottom of the fourth. Dylan Parzyk hit a two-run double to left, followed by an RBI triple from Matt Baty and RBI single by Ritchie Price. San Diego responded with two runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth.
Five of the runs in the sixth for San Diego came with two outs, capped by a two-run single from Buschini and two-run double by Abruzzo. Buschini slammed a two-run shot to right in the seventh as USD took the 15-4 lead.
Kansas starter Ricky Fairchild (2-1) took the loss after giving up seven runs (five earned) on five hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Game four of the Public Storage Baseball Classic will start at 5 p.m. tonight with host No. 25 USC taking on Vanderbilt.
