No. 6/8 California Routs UNLV, 13-2

LAS VEGAS - The No. 6/8 California softball team finished tournament play at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic with a 13-2 victory over host UNLV, Sunday.
Cal (7-2) scored in every inning of the five-inning game, posting one in the first, two in the second, four in each of the third and fourth innings and two in the fifth. Senior Kristina Thorson (4-2) held the Rebels scoreless through four innings, but UNLV got two runs in the fifth. Thorson finished with six strikeouts.
Freshman shortstop Carly Winger led the Bears, going 2-for-4, including two doubles. She also tallied two runs and two RBI. In the second, Winger doubled to left field, scoring both Erika Racklin and Gina Leomiti.
The Bears also got steady offensive production from sophomore third baseman Katie Vickers and freshman right fielder Morgan Siegel. Vickers finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI, while Siegel went 2-for-2, scoring once and driving in two runs.
Vickers' single to left field in the first scored the Bears' first run (Lindsay James). Siegel drove in her two runs on two singles, one in the fifth and one in the fourth.
The Bears end the five-game tournament in Las Vegas with a 3-2 record, suffering their only two losses of the season, against No. 14 Northwestern and Fullerton.
Cal travels to San Jose State on Wednesday (Feb. 22) and hosts Sacramento State in a double header on Friday (Feb. 24).
