Huskies in 12th at Wildcat Invitational

Tucson, Ariz. - The 27th-ranked Washington women's golf team shot a a 6-over 290 to tie for eighth after the first round of play today at the Wildcat Invitational at Arizona National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The second round, suspended due to darkness while the Huskies were still on the course, will be continued tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. (MST), and will be immediately followed by the final round. Washington was in 12th place overall when play was suspended. Duke, the nation's top team in Golfweek's latest rankings, led the field in round one with a 3-under 281. As of the suspension of play, Arizona State had taken over top position, five strokes under par.

' I feel that we've made a of of strides this week,' said head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. 'We got knocked around a little bit last week, so it was nice to get back on the right track. We had a pretty solid first round. We might have let it get away a little bit at the end, but overall we were pretty solid.'

The Huskies were led in the first round by senior Paige Mackenzie, who carded a 1-under 70 to tie for ninth overall. Arizona State's Jennifer Osborn, Duke's Anna Grzebien and USC's Irene Cho tied for the first round lead at 3-under 68.

Senior Sung Ea Lee shot an even-par 71 to take 16th after the first round. Junior Amber Prange was a stroke behind her at 1-over 72, good for 24th in the field. Courtney McCracken's first round of spring competition was good for a 6-over 77, placing her in 63rd, while Kim Shin's 90 placed her in 95th.

' Having Courtney back in the lineup is a good positive for us. She's playing well. Sun is really coming around for us. She came on strong last week and she's continued it this week. I definitely feel she's on the right track. And Amber's just been rock solid in the spring.'
