No. 15 Cal Competes at Wildcat Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. - Coming off a third-place finish at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge Feb. 13-15, No. 15 California travels to the Wildcat Invitational Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 20-21. The 17-team tournament is staged at the Arizona National Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.
The complete field features (alphabetical order, Golfweek rankings noted): No. 20 Arizona, No. 8 Arizona State, No. 6 Auburn, No. 15 California, No. 1 Duke, No. 4 Georgia, Nevada, No. 28 New Mexico, No. 43 New Mexico State, No. 7 Pepperdine, No. 16 Stanford, No. 14 Tennessee, No. 2 UCLA, No. 13 UNLV, No. 5 USC, No. 11 Vanderbilt and No. 27 Washington.
Cal's lineup in order is (season stroke average): senior Sofie Andersson (73.5), senior Sophia Sheridan (76.3), freshman Allison Goodman (77.8), junior Mika Takayama (77.2), freshman Shannon Yocum (79.5).
Andersson jumped from No. 27 to No. 16 (ties career best) in the national rankings after placing third (+4, 217) at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. Her 73.5 stroke average is on pace to break Sarah Huarte's previous school season record of 73.8, set in 2003-04.
Cal placed third at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge last week with a 54-hole score of 56-over 908 against a national-caliber field. The Bears performance propelled them from No. 21 to No. 15 in this week's Golfweek poll. No. 2 UCLA, which took sixth, was among the teams the Bears defeated at the 14-team tournament. Sheridan joined Andersson in the top five, tying for fourth (220) after leading through 36 holes.
Cal hasn't competed at the Wildcat Invitational since 2004 when the Bears finished fourth out of 14 teams with a score of plus 32, 884. Sheridan paced Cal in second place at one-under 212.
