Washington's Brandon Roy Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON senior guard Brandon Roy has been named the U.S. Bank Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 13 - 19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
A Seattle native, Roy averaged 23.0 points at the Oregon schools last week. In the 75-72 win at Oregon, Roy scored 21 points. The senior also pulled down four rebounds and dished out four assists. In the 96-63 victory at Oregon State, Roy scored 25 points, dished out nine assists, and grabbed eight rebounds. The win in Corvallis gave the Huskies back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1984 and 1985.
For the week, Roy shot 17-of-32 (.531) from the field, and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line. He has now scored 20 or more points in seven consecutive games. Roy also averaged 6.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in Oregon.
Washington (20-5 overall, 8-5 Pac-10) will play host to the Bay Area teams this week, facing Stanford on Thurs., Feb. 23 and California on Sun., Feb. 26.
This is the third weekly honor for Roy and Washington's 26th Player of the Week all-time. Roy is the third Pac-10 men's basketball player to earn Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. Arizona's Hassan Adams won the award on Jan. 2 and Jan. 9, while Stanford's Matt Haryasz earned the nod on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6.
