Feb. 21, 2006

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 15 California tied for third with No. 2 UCLA at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational with a school-record 54-hole score of 859 Tuesday at Arizona National Golf Course. The Golden Bears carded a five-over 289 in the final round to finish 19 shots behind No. 8 Arizona State and 13 shots behind No. 1 Duke.

Four Sun Devils finished in the top 11 to lead their team to a score of 12-under 840. ASU fired the best round of the tournament in the second round (274), which wrapped up this morning. Cal finished the two-day event at seven-over on the par 71 course. The previous program record for 54 holes was 868 (+4), but it was recorded on a par-72 course at the 2004 NCAA West Regional.

Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino claimed top individual honors at nine-under 204 after carding a tournament-low round of five-under 66 today. Concolino won the event with a birdie on her final hole - the par-five 18th. Cal senior Sophia Sheridan placed second with a school-record 54-hole score of eight-under 205. The previous record was seven-under (209 and 206). Sheridan also finished second at the 2004 Wildcat Invitational and tied for fourth at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge last week.

Sheridan sank seven birdies in Tuesday's final round and 19 over the three rounds.

Cal freshman Allison Goodman posted her best collegiate performance, tying for 17th at one-over 214. Goodman recorded a two-under 69 today and was at minus-four through seven holes on the strength of an eagle on the 11th hole (par 5) and three birdies.
