Cal Men's Golf in 15th After First Day of John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii

WAHIAWA, OAHU - The Cal men's golf team, paced by freshman George Gandranata's 68, is in 15th place after Wednesday's first round of the John Burns Intercollegiate, played at the Leilehua Golf Course, Feb. 22-24. The Golden Bears shot a one-over-par round of 289.

Auburn leads the tournament after day one of the 54-hole tournament, 72-par course, shooting a 15-under-par 273. They are followed by Arizona (-13), Long Beach State and Colorado State (-11) and Brigham Young (-10). Individually, Long Beach State's Brett Lederer leads, shooting a seven-under-par 65. He's followed by Bronson Burgood of Texas A&M and Jay Moseley of Auburn (66, -6), and six players tied at fourth place with scores of 67 (-5).

Gandranata is currently in 10th place with his four-under 68. Other first day finishers for the Bears include junior Michael Wilson with a 72 (E), freshman Romain Payet with a 73 (+1), sophomore Freddy Wolfe with a 76 (+4) and freshman Larry Wong with a 78 (+6).
