Swim & Dive Move Up to Third-Place on Day 2 of Pac-10's

The UCLA swim and dive team moved from fourth to third (410 pts.) on day two of the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, CA as juniors Katie Arnold, Katie Nelson and Sara Clark led the Bruins in the pool.
At the end of day two, Arizona stands in first-place with 474 points, followed by Stanford in second (443 points).
Up in Federal Way, WA, the divers came up big with a fourth, fifth and seventh-place finish on the one meter board to add 74 points to the Bruins third-place total. Clark led the divers with her fourth-place finish (280.30), followed by freshman Marisa Samaniego in fifth (273.60) and senior Paige Thompson in seventh (244.20).
'Paige and Sara had some mistakes today, but they were able to come back strong and score some big points for the team,' said Dive Coach Tom Stebbins. 'Marisa did a solid job all day long and we were on fire.'
At Belmont pool in Long Beach, CA, Nelson started the evening off with a fourth-place finish of her own in the 500 Free. She swam a new season-best and improved NCAA 'B' time of 4:45.98. Senior Liz Keating, swimming in the B Console Final also swam a season-best 4:56.32.
In the 200 IM A Consolation, sophomore Chiemi Yamamoto (2:04.03, NCAA 'B' time) and junior Isabel Miesner (2:04.63). swam season-best times to finish 15th and 16th, respectively. In the B Consolation, junior Jeana Fuccillo (2:03.46) and senior Shellene Catalano (2;04.44) also swam season-bests to finish 17th and 20th, respectively. Also in the B Final, swimming season-best times were sophomore Nicolette Teo (2:06.20) and junior Courtney Iversen (2:06.89). Yamamoto and Fuccillo both improved on their NCAA 'B' qualifying times.
In the final relay of the night, the Bruin team of senior Kim Vandenberg, Arnold, Thurman and Poteete placed fifth overall in a time of 1:32.40.
Competition continues tomorrow with the 3M board in Federal Way, WA and the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 400 Medley Relay in Long Beach.
