Cal Men's Golf Places 14th at John Burns Intercollegiate

WAHIAWA, OAHU - The Cal men's golf team, led by freshman George Gandranata, who finished with a three-round score of 210 (68, 70, 72), placed 14th at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Oahu. The Golden Bears had an eight-under-par final score of 856 (289, 282, 285).

Southern Methodist won the 54-hole, 72-par tournament, shooting a 41-under-par 823 (279, 271, 273), narrowly edging out BYU's 824 (278, 269, 277). Individually, SMU's Brandon DeStefano (68, 68, 66) won the title over Auburn's Jay Moseley (66, 66, 70) on the second hole of the playoff. Both players had shot a 14-under 202.

Gandranata finished tied for 25th. Other Bear finishers include junior Michael Wilson with a three-under 213 (72, 69, 72), freshmen Romain Payet had a plus-one 217 (73, 74, 70), freshman Larry Wong had a plus-two 218 (78, 69, 71), and sophomore Freddy Wolfe had a plus-15 231 (76, 78, 77).
