Husky Golfers Travel to Ashworth Invitational

Seattle - The 26th-ranked Washington men's golf team heads to California Feb. 27-28 for the Ashworth Invitational. The USC-hosted event will feature 36 holes of play on Monday, Feb. 27 and 18 holes on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at North Ranch Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The field for the par-71, 6,900-yard event includes BYU (ranked No. 6 by Golfweek), Coastal Carolina (33), Fresno State, Georgia Southern, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine (28), San Diego State (18), Stanford, UC Davis, UCLA (5), USC (34), Tennessee (8) and Washington (26).
The Ashworth Invitational will be Washington's second tournament of the spring, as the Huskies placed seventh at the Waikoloa Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Feb. 8-10. Alex Prugh led the team at the event, placing 11th in the field with a 3-under 210. Defending NCAA Champion James Lepp leads the Huskies with a 71.73 stroke-average on the season. Erik Olson, Zach Bixler and Sterling Clark round out the lineup.
Lepp led the Huskies to a sixth-place finish at the Ashworth Invitational in 2005, placing third overall with a 3-under 210. Washington carded a 284 in the final round, the second-best round of the day, to finish with a 54-hole score of 878.
The 2006 Ashworth Invitational begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 on Monday. On Tuesday, participants will tee off between 7:30 and 9:15 from the first and 10th tees. Live scoring of the tournament is available at golfstat.com.
