Bruin Softball Shuts Out No. 10 Oklahoma
Feb. 26, 2006
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Anjelica Selden struck out 15 and UCLA (13-1) put together a sixth-inning rally on Sunday at the Palm Springs Classic to defeat No. 10 Oklahoma, 2-0. Krista Colburn had the game-winning RBI with a single in the sixth inning as the Bruins finished tournament play with a perfect 5-0 record.
The game was a pitching duel for five and a half innings, with Selden striking out the side in the second and recording 10 strikeouts through four innings. For Oklahoma, Nicole Denes pitched a perfect game through the first four innings before Jodie Legaspi connected on a one-out double to right center in the fifth.
All of the game's scoring came in the sixth inning. Ashley Herrera used the Bruins second hit of the day to lead off the inning, and was sacrificed to second base by Tara Henry. A walk to Andrea Duran gave UCLA runners on first and second with one out, bringing Krista Colburn to the plate. Colburn roped a single up the middle for an RBI, advancing Duran to third on the play. After Lisa Dodd walked to load the bases, Emily Zaplatosch fouled out on a sacrifice fly with Duran sliding around OU's catcher to score the insurance run.
The Bruins return to action next weekend as they play host to the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. Cal Poly, San Jose State and Santa Clara will visit Easton Stadium next weekend for tournament play.
