California's Conor Niland Named Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - CALIFORNIA senior Conor Niland has been named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 21 - 26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Niland, a senior from Limerick, Ireland, expaneded his dual-match winning streak last weekend to six. Niland defeated fourth-ranked Lars Poerschke of Baylor in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) in the No. 1 singles spot. On the doubles court, Niland and his partner, junior Tyler Browne, defeated Baylor's Matija Zgaga and Vladimir Portnov, 8-4 in the first position.
Cal will host Brigham Young on Tues., Feb. 28, before the Bears' doubles teams travel to La Jolla, Calif. for the Pacific Coast Tournament.
This is Niland's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and second weekly honor all-time for California. Niland is the first male tennis player in the Conference to win the award twice in one season.
