WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - California senior men's tennis player Conor Niland has been named the Pac-10 men's tennis player of the week for Feb. 21-26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Niland, a senior from Limerick, Ireland, expanded his dual-match winning streak last weekend to six. At the beginning of the month, Niland recorded an upset victory over UCLA's third-ranked Benjamin Kohlloeffel, 6-3, 6-2.
On the doubles court, Niland and his partner, junior Tyler Browne, defeated Baylor's Matija Zgaga and Vladimir Portnov, 8-4 in the first position. Zgaga and Portnov are ranked No. 6 nationally.
The award is Niland's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor. He was honored the week of Feb. 6-12.
The Bears will host BYU on Tuesday at the Hellman Tennis Center. The match is set for a 1:30 p.m. (PST) start.
