UCLA's Anjelica Selden Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore pitcher Anjelica Selden has been named the Pac-10 Softball Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 22-28, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Vacaville, Calif., native went 4-0 at the Palm Springs Classic, striking out 41 and allowing just one run. Selden started complete-game victories against Ohio State, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 10 Oklahoma, and pitched 2.2 innings of relief against Kansas to earn the victory.
Against Ohio State, Selden struck out nine and allowed just one hit in the game, a 4-1 UCLA victory. Entering the Kansas game in relief, Selden struck out seven of eight possible batters and earned the win in UCLA's 4-3 win. Later that night against No. 8 Texas A&M, Selden struck out 10 and walked just two, pitching a two-hit shutout. She finished tournament action with a 15-strikeout performance, allowing four hits and one walk against 10th-ranked Oklahoma in a game televised live on ESPNU.
For the week, Selden pitched 23.2 innings and held opposing batters to a .110 average.
The 2005 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, Selden shattered UCLA's single-season strikeout record in 2005 with 485 strikeouts, 126 more than the previous Bruin record. She was a second team NFCA All-American and made the Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team.
UCLA (13-1), hosts the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament this weekend, and will face in-state rivals Cal Poly, San Jose State and Santa Clara.
This is Selden's 5th Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and UCLA's 89th weekly honor all-time.
