Men's Swimming In Fifth Place After Second Day Of Pac-10s

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University men's swimming continued its competition in the Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships Thursday in Federal Way, Wash. at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. The Sun Devils are in fifth place with 124 points with two days of competition remaining.
In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) recorded the school's sixth-fastest time in school history by touching the wall in 4:20.54 during the preliminaries. In the finals, Azevedo finished sixth for the Sun Devils with a time of 4:21.64. In the C final, senior Micah Carlson finished the 500-yard freestyle in a personal season-best 4:31.78. Freshman Kerry Tannhauser (Seattle, Wash.) recorded a time of 4:31.13 in the 500-yard freestyle, which is the team's second-fastest time in the event this season.
ASU freshman Gal Nevo recorded the team's fastest time this season and fifth-fastest time in school history in the 200-yard IM by touching the wall in 1:48.21. His NCAA consideration time in the event put him in third place in the B final. Finishing in 1:49.32, sophomore C.J. Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.) put himself in a three-way tie for sixth place in the ASU record books and won the C final with his NCAA consideration time. Senior David Kolozar (Budapest, Hungary) finished the C final with a personal season-best time of 1:50.08 in the 200-yard IM.
ASU junior Richie Crowder (Los Gatos, Calif.) swam the 50-yard freestyle and touched the wall in a NCAA consideration time of 20.14 in the preliminaries. In the finals, Crowder finished sixth in the B final and 12th overall recording a time of 20.23. Senior Tom Hickman (Sugar Land, Texas) won the D final with a time of 20.64 and finished 19th overall. Hickman's time is the second-fastest time a Sun Devil has recorded in the event this season.
The Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships will continue Friday and Saturday in Federal Way, Wash. at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
