No. 5 Stanford Downs Purdue, 4-0

Fullerton, Calif. - Freshman infielder Maddy Coon hit her sixth home run of the season to lead No. 5 Stanford to a 4-0 victory over Purdue. Freshman pitcher Missy Penna struck out 11 batters in seven innings to hold the Boilermakers scoreless.
Stanford completed two innings without a hit until the bottom of the third. Sophomore outfielder Anna Beardman got on base with a single to third base. Senior outfielder Catalina Morris joined Beardman on base as she was hit by a pitch. Coon then stepped up and hit a home run over the left center fence to bring both runners around.
The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning. Morris got on base with a bunt and Coon reached with a single to the shortstop. Sophomore infielder Michelle Smith then knocked Morris home from second with a hard single up the middle. Stanford finished the game with a 4-0 lead.
Freshman pitcher Missy Penna struck out 11 batters in seven innings, allowing only two hits and no walks. Penna improves to 9-2 on the season.
Coon was 2-2 at the plate to lead the Cardinal with one run and three RBI. Morris was 1-3 with two runs scored and Smith was 1-3 with one RBI.
Stanford returns to action tomorrow in the Worth Invitational with UC Santa Barbara at 1:00 pm and Northwestern at 6:00 pm.
