UCLA Men's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season on a High Note

The UCLA men's track and field team had an impressive showing at the UCLA Invitational on Saturday as 10 NCAA Regional qualifying marks were achieved highlighted by sophomore John Caulfield, freshman Kevin Craddock, senior Demetre Howard and freshman Boldizsar Kocsor.
Caulfield, who holds one of the ten top shot put marks collegiately in the indoor season, won the discus with a five-foot lifetime-best and regional mark of 184-6. Junior Jason Rider also threw a regional mark, finishing second with a throw of 175-10, just off his lifetime-best of 177-5. Sophomore Greg Garza also qualified for Regionals with his fourth-place mark of 170-2.
Craddock, one of the Bruins' top freshmen, opened up his Bruin career with a lifetime-best and regional qualifying run of 52.27. Jonathan Williams, who ended his eligibility with UCLA last season, won the 400mH, setting a new Belize National Record of 50.64.
Kocsor, the 2005 PanAm and USATF Junior Champion in the hammer, won his signature event, throwing a lifetime-best and regional qualifier of 197-6.
Howard won the triple jump with a regional mark of 50-9.25, just off his lifetime-best of 51-0.75. Sophomore Michael Johnson also achieved the regional standard, jumping 49-5.75 for second-place.
Junior Martell Munguia ran a lifetime-best and regional qualifying time of 3:46.74 to win the 1500m, while junior Austin Ramos was second, also with a regional qualifying time (3:47.66).
Senior Jake Knight won the shot put with a regional mark of 58-10.25, while Garza placed second (52-1.75).
In the high jump, sophomore Dominique Easterling finished second (6-8.75), while freshman Luke Barr was third (6-6.75). Sophomore Joel Tuosto led the Bruins in the long jump, finishing third with a best mark of 23-5.25. Sophomore Zack Miller placed second in the pole vault, jumping a lifetime-best 16-0.75.
Senior Craig Everhart, junior Brandon Johnson, Wells, Rhoades and Caulfield will next head to the NCAA Indoor Championships March 10-11 in Fayetteville, AR. The rest of the team will take two weeks off before heading to Northridge, CA for the CSUN Invitational March 16-18.
