Fullerton, Calif. - Freshman infielder Maddy Coon and senior centerfielder Catalina Morris hammered one home run each tonight to lead the Cardinal to a 4-2 victory over Cal State Fullerton. Doubles by Coon and senior Lauren Lappin in the seventh inning cinched the win for Stanford.
After one and a half scoreless innings, it looked like the Titans had a chance to score with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning, but senior Marissa Marzan flied out to shortstop Maddy Coon to end the inning scoreless.
In her second at-bat, Coon opened the fourth inning with a home run over the centerfield fence to put Stanford ahead, 1-0. Coon's home run was her eighth and the team's 16th of the season.

Sophomore infielder Michelle Smith got on base by an error from the shortstop, and junior leftfielder Jackie Rinehart was walked to first. Senior Shoney Hixson came in to pinch run for Smith on second base. Sophomore infielder Erin Howe reached on another error by the shortstop to load the bases, but Stanford's hitters couldn't bring them home.
Sophomore pitcher Becky McCullough entered game in the bottom of the sixth inning for freshman Missy Penna. Kiki Munoz knocked a single up the middle to get on base for the Titans, and teammate Whitney Kroh came in to pinch run at first. McCullough struck out two batters to end the inning tied, 2-2.
In the top of the seventh, Smith was walked to first to start the inning. Morris reached on a fielder's choice, but Smith was thrown out at second base. Morris stole second base and was knocked home on the next play as senior infielder Lauren Lappin cracked a double down the right line. Coon followed with another double over the shortstop's head to score Lappin from second and Stanford took the lead, 4-2. McCullough struck out two more batters in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap the victory.
In five innings, starting pitcher Missy Penna allowed only three hits, struck out two batters and walked three. In almost two innings, McCullough struck out three batters, walked none and was credited with the win. McCullough improves to 4-2 on the season.
