Im Leads the Field at Las Vegas

Sophomore Daniel Im took a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship and UCLA's Gold Team was in seventh place. Nevada Las Vegas is hosting the event at the Southern Highlands Country Club.
Im, who won this event last season in a playoff, fired a first-round, three-under par 69 and leads UNLV's C.J. Gatto, who shot a 71 (-1). Im was six-under par after a birdie at the par 3 16th hole, but played the last two holes in three-over par.
The Bruins posted a team score of 304 (+16) in the first round and trailed Georgia and UNLV by nine strokes. Georgia Tech was second at 297 (+9), followed by Oklahoma State at 299 (+11), Clemson at 301 (+13) and Texas A & M at 303 (+15).
The golf course was not as kind to the rest of the Bruins. Junior Chris Heintz and Craig Leslie were tied for 32nd at 77 (+5). Freshman Eric Flores was tied for 60th after carding an 81 (+9) and sophomore Kevin Chappell was tied for 74th after posting an 82 (+11).
Second round action continues Saturday with the final round commencing on Sunday.
The UCLA Blue Team begins the Battle of Monarch Bay on Sat., Mar. 11. The tournament will be hosted by Holy Names University.
