Washington Huskies Burry the Bulldogs 7-0

SEATTLE, WA -- The No. 21 Washington men's tennis team (12-2) swept the doubles and singles matches en route to a 7-0 victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs (1-7). The match was played in front of a home crowd in the Huskies' Nordstrom Tennis Center marking the seventh straight win for UW over the Zags.

The Huskies played with team chemistry and poise in doubles action winning all three of the matches while only dropping a total of five games to the Bulldogs. A new team composed of freshman David Chu and junior Mike Ricks were the first to turn in a victory playing on the third court. Ricks and Chu defeated Gonzaga's Robert Penny and Cooper Fratt 8-3.

The doubles team point was clinched by Andy Kuharszky and Klaus Jank in the second position defeating the Zag's Charles Adams and Reid Arthur 8-1. In similar fashion Alex Slovic and Daniel Chu on the first doubles court won their match 8-1 over Logan Napolsky and Brett Womack.

Kuharszky, playing in the third singles position, where he turned in the first win for the Huskies defeating Marco Pineda 6-1, 6-0. No. 48 Jean-Noel Insausti improved his record to 11-1 on the season turning in a win over Gonzaga's Brett Womack 6-1, 6-2.

Co-captain Alex Slovic clinched the match for the Huskies on the number one singles court. Gonzaga's Reid Arthur was unable to break Slovic's serve throughout the duration of the match, resulting in a 6-2, 6-0 win for the Huskies. Daniel Chu turned in yet another win in the fourth singles spot, improving his dual record to a team high of 11-1. Chu defeated Gonzaga's Cooper Fratt 6-2, 6-3.

Ricks, whom played in the fifth singles position for only the second time this season, was able to prevail over his opponent, Robert Penney, 6-1, 6-4. David Chu rapped up play for Washington getting a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bryan Bankester.

The Dawgs will have a week off from match play during the upcoming finals week but will then embark on their second road trip of the season, traveling to Malibu, Calif. to compete against Princeton and Pepperdine. Washington will face Princeton on Tuesday Mar. 21, at 11:00 am and the Pepperdine Waves the following day at 1:00 pm. Both matches will take place in Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
