No. 5 USC Women Down No. 73 Washington State 6-0

March 11, 2006

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- The fifth-ranked USC women's tennis team posted another dominating singles performance with a 6-0 sweep of visiting No. 73 Washington State at Marks Stadium on Saturday. Cloudy skies called for the teams to play singles first and then take on doubles play as needed, but the Women of Troy pumped out six two-set singles victories to tack up their second Pac-10 win. USC is now 9-1 overall and 2-0 in Pac-10 play.

Anca Anastasiu remains flawless in dual match action after a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, and now boasts a 9-0 dual match record. The rest of the Women of Troy were similarly solid, following the lead of #48 Dianne Matias, who rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 3 position. Third-ranked Amanda Fink improved her dual match record to 9-1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Amy Toth at No. 2 singles, and #67 Luana Magnani now holds the same record after a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marjolein van de Ven at the No. 4 slot.

USC's No. 1 singles player, #50 Lindsey Nelson took on #88 Ekaterina Burduli and posted a 6-2, 7-6 victory. Senior Carine Vermeulen also did her part in the clean sweep by the Trojans with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

USC returns to action on Wednesday (March 15) against Baylor at 1:30 p.m. at Marks Stadium.
