No. 28 California Men's Tennis Defeats No. 55 SMU

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The No. 28 California men's tennis team (8-3, 3-2 Pac-10) rebounded after loosing the doubles point to defeat four SMU players in singles to sneak by with a 4-3 victory in Pebble Beach, Calif., on Saturday morning.
No. 16 senior Conor Niland continued his success in the first position of singles as he defeated Peter Ordesson in two sets, 6-1, 6-4. Niland improves to 10-0 on the season in singles.
No. 105 junior Tyler Browne beat Fedrico Murgier in two sets, 6-3, 6-3 in the second position. In the fourth position, junior Daniel Sebescen defeated Henrik Soderberg in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Ken Nakahara improved to 3-0 in the sixth position with his win over Oivind Alver in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Senior Lennart Maack two sets went into tiebreakers in the second position. Maack however fell to Alex Skrypko, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (15). Freshman Eoin Heavey also fell in three sets to David Kuczer, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in the fifth position.
The No. 42 duo of Niland and Browne defeated Skrypko and Kuczer in the first position, 8-5. In the second position, Heavey and Sebescen fell to Ordesson and Alver, 8-4. Murgier and Soderberg also got the best of Maack and senior Dean Wallace in the third position, defeating them, 8-2.
The Bears will continue play in Pebble Beach, Calif., on Sunday. Cal will face USF at 2 p.m. (PST).
