Silvers, Ridgeway Shine in Day 3 Prelims of NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Georgia - The No. 3 California women's swimming team sends five individuals and one relay to the finals of the 2006 NCAA Championships on the last day of competition. Senior Helen Silver turned in the top time of the 200-yard backstroke prelims (1:54.25), while her sister, sophomore Emily Silver, is seeded second in the 100 freestyle final (48.48) at the University of Georgia's Gabrielsen Natatorium. Both times are lifetime bests for the Silvers.
Helen was seeded second coming into the prelims of the 200 back, while Emily was seeded fourth in the 100 free prelims.
Sophomore Rachel Ridgeway improved her 200 fly time by just over two seconds and will be seeded fourth in tonight's final. She was seeded 15th in the prelims at 1:59.00 and clocked a 1:56.94 in the prelims.
The Bears' 400 freestyle relay team will move on to tonight's championship final after finishing sixth in the prelims (3:18.96) with juniors Sherry Tsai, Lauren Andrews and Erin Reilly, and sophomore Emily Silver.
Reilly will also compete in the consolation championship of the 100 free after finishing in 49.22 (11th). Freshman Lauren Rogers will take part in the 200 back consolation championship with a 1:57.23 (11th) in the prelims. Rogers' time is a lifetime best.
