Series Notes: Stanford has won an amazing 23 straight games over Washington State since a 6-3 Cougar victory over the Cardinal at the UC Riverside Invitational Tournament on March 28, 1978 ... The streak has included seven consecutive three-game sweeps over the Cougars since the teams begin playing conference games when the Pac-10 expanded to nine teams in 1999 ... Stanford has also won the last 10 games between the clubs at Sunken Diamond with the last Washington State win over the Cardinal at Sunken Diamond a 5-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on May 1, 1971 ... Stanford also opened its 2005 conference schedule against Washington State, sweeping the Cougars in a three-game series in Pullman

• PAC-10 OPENERS - Stanford has won its first Pac-10 series of the season in each of the last nine seasons with the last conference opening series loss coming at UCLA when the Bruins took two-of-three from February 23-25, 1996

• TWO IN A ROW - Stanford dropped its final two games of its most recent series at USC (March 10-12) before taking 12 days off for its annual break for finals

• HAPPY TO BE HOME - Stanford's upcoming series versus Washington State this Friday-Sunday will mark the first home action for the Cardinal in more than a month since February 21 and begins a seven-game homestand that will also see USC (March 31 - April 2) and Sacramento State (April 4) visit Sunken Diamond

• OFF THE ROAD - Stanford finished its recent string of eight consecutive road games with a 4-4 mark and will not hit the road again until playing 10-of-11 games away from Sunken Diamond from April 5-23

• WINNING THE CLOSE ONES - Stanford has a 5-2 record in one-run games this season and is 2-0 in extra inning contests

• SEASON SUMMARY - Stanford started the season with a three-game sweep of then No. 5 Cal State Fullerton (2/3-5), before dropping two-of-three to Kansas (2/10-12), taking two-of-three against then No. 7 Texas (2/18-20) and at Fresno State (2/24-26), splitting a weather-shortened two-game set at California (3/3-4) and dropping two-of-three at USC (3/10-12) ... The Cardinal also won a single game against Nevada (2/21)

• BEATING THE BEST - Stanford is 5-1 against ranked teams but just 6-6 against unranked opponents (according to Baseball America at the time of the games)

• AMONG THE BEST - Despite some of its early season struggles, Stanford has played well enough to earn Baseball America's No. 17 ranking in the publication's most recent release of its weekly poll on March 19, holding on to the same spot from the previous week and only one place lower than its highest ranking of the season at No. 16 on March 5 ... The Cardinal is down two spots to No. 17 and one spot to No. 18 in the lastest Rosenblatt Report and Collegiate Baseball polls, respectively ... The USA Today coaches poll lists the Cardinal at No. 22 (-4) and the NCBWA has Stanford at No. 23 (-6)

• MINAKER'S 11-GAME HIT STREAK - Chris Minaker is currently on a torrid season-high 11-game hit streak, hitting .469 (23-49) during the run • On the season, he leads the regulars with a .368 batting average, three homers, 22 RBI, three stolen bases and 28 hits

• DOUBLE-DIGIT HIT STREAK BROKEN - Stanford had posted seven straight double-digit hit games before getting just six in its most recent game at USC (3/12)
