March 21, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore Krista Colburn has been named the Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week for Mar. 14-20, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
The Mulkiteo, Wash., native hit .444 over UCLA's two wins last week, going 4-for-9 with two runs scored, two home runs and a 1.111 slugging percentage. Colburn had UCLA's first hit of the game in both contests, belting a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning against UNLV.
The next day, in a televised rematch of the 2005 NCAA Championship series against No. 9 Michigan, Colburn singled with one out in the bottom of the first inning, following with a single in the sixth. Those two singles were the only non-home runs among UCLA's seven hits on the day. Colburn then came up to bat with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, and connected on her third home run of the season to give UCLA the 6-4 walk-off victory.
Colburn was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2005 Women's College World Series, and was the MetRX/UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for Jan. 31, 2005.
UCLA (27-1), plays at Cal State Northridge on Sat., Mar. 25 and then hosts No. 16 Northwestern on Sun., Mar. 26.
