Bears in 6th Place at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. - Third-ranked California took third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay final on Thursday night and the Golden Bears stand in sixth place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Cal has 72 points, while defending NCAA team champion Auburn is in first place with 178.5 points.

The Cal quartet of senior Milorad Cavic, junior Jonas Tilly, sophomore William Copeland and sophomore Jernej Godec swam a 1:16.72 to take third in the 200-free relay, which was won by Auburn in 1:16.15.

Cal sophomore Dominik Meichtry, the only Bear to compete in an individual A final tonight, took eighth place in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:20.10.
