UW Travels to National Invitational

Seattle - The 24th-ranked Washington men's golf team returns from a two-week break at the National Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., March 26-28. The Arizona-hosted event will be played at the par-72, 7,094-yard course at Omni Tucson National Golf Club, which will also serve as the host site for the 2006 NCAA West Regionals.
Nine teams in the field for are currently ranked in the GCAA/Bridgestone Top 25 Coaches Poll. The following teams are scheduled to compete (ranking): Arizona, Arizona State (8), Arkansas, Fresno State, Kent State, Minnesota (T25), New Mexico (T25), Pepperdine (20), Texas Christian, Tulsa (15), UCLA (5), UNLV (7), USC (22) and Washington (24). Eighteen holes will be played each day beginning Sunday, March 26. Action is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. MST on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday's final round will start at 7 a.m.
Junior Erik Olson was Washington's top finisher at the team's last event, the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship. Senior James Lepp and junior Alex Prugh lead the Huskies with an identical 72.81 stroke average. Freshmen Kellen Eakin and John Wise, both making their UW varsity debuts, round out the lineup.
Washington last appeared at the National Invitational in 2005, when the Huskies finished 13th. Zach Bixler and Prugh led the Dawgs, shooting 5-under 211 and tying for 12th place in the field.
