Barbosa 3rd in 200 Breaststroke Prelim at NCAA

ATLANTA, Ga. - California senior Henrique Barbosa took third place in the 200-yard breaststroke preliminary race on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Barbosa swam a 1:55.97 to finish behind Alabama winner Vlad Polyakov (1:55.62). Golden Bears sophomore William Copeland also had a big day, qualifying for tonight's A final as part of Cal's 400-yard freestyle relay and for the B final of the 100-yard freestyle.
Cal is in sixth place at the NCAA Championships with 182.5 points. Arizona leads with 336.5 points.
The Golden Bears foursome of junior Jonas Tilly, sophomore Garrett Wagner, sophomore Jernej Godec and sophomore William Copeland took fifth place in the 400-freestyle relay in a time of 2:53.59 to qualify for tonight's A final. Arizona won the relay in 2:52.24.
Cal qualified three more swimmers for B finals tonight: sophomore Louis Vayo, who was 12th in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.82); sophomore William Copeland, who was 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (personal record 43.13); and junior Patrick O'Neil, who was 14th in the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.21).
Auburn's Steven Segerlin won the platform prelim (428.40). No Cal divers qualified for the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA Championships conclude with the 7 p.m. ET finals.
