Lincecum Leads UW To 5-0 Shutout At Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. - Junior ace Tim Lincecum threw eight shutout innings as theWashington baseball team avoided a weekend series sweep with a 5-0 win overCalifornia Sunday at Evans Diamond.
Lincecum (5-2) allowed five hits (all singles), walking three and striking out eight. Overhis last 23 innings, Lincecum has allowed only eight hits and one earned run. Sophomorecloser Elliott Cribby worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the shutout.
Washington improved to 18-9 overall and 1-2 in Pac-10 play with the win while theGolden Bears dropped to 14-11 and 2-1.
In the fourth, Clem belted the first pitch from Cal starter Michael Cooper (1-3) deep overthe left-field fence. The homer was Clem's ninth of the year, moving him into a tie forthe Pac-10 lead in home runs alongside teammate Matt Stevens.
The UW added to the lead in the fifth. With shortstop Danny Cox aboard on a single anda stolen base, Hague went the other way to right field with his second homer of the year,increasing the lead to 4-0 and chasing Cooper from the game.
In the seventh, Husky first baseman Curt Rindal, who extended his hitting streak to 16games with three hits on the day, drove in the UW's fifth run with a two-out single.
Rindal finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI. Clem went 2-for-5 with two runs driven inand leadoff hitter Jake Rife was 2-for-3.
The series concludes with a 1:00 p.m. game Sunday. The game will air live on radio onKKNW AM-1150.
