Arizona's Roger Matalonga Named Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA senior Roger Matalonga has been named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Mar. 20 - 26 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Matalonga, from Terrassa, Spain, helped the Wildcats defeat in-state rival, Arizona State, 6-1 last week. The senior won his doubles match at the No. 2 position with teammate Francois VanderMerwe to defeat Nick Hegarty and Ryan McBride, 8-4. He then got behind one set to Jonathan Kinsella in the No. 1 singles match, but was able to come back and take a close second set, 7-5, to the 85th-ranked singles player. Matalonga finished the match strongly, winning the third set 6-1 to improve his singles record to 8-5.
This is Matalonga's second Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and third weekly honor all-time for Arizona.
