Niland Picks Up 13th Straight Singles Victory, No. 28 Cal Beats TCU 5-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 26 California men's tennis team (10-4, 3-2 Pac-10) picked up the doubles point and four singles matches to defeat TCU on their home court Monday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas.
No. 11 senior Conor Niland expanded his record to 13-0 in the first position of singles as he defeated Andrei Mlendea in two sets, 6-3, 6-1. Niland now is tied with Tulsa's No. 6 Arnau Brugues who is also 13-0 on the season for the best winning streak in the country.
No. 122 junior Tyler Browne beat Rafael Abreu in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, in the second position. Senior Lennart Maack picked up a victory over Cosmin Cotet in the third position, 6-0, 6-4. In the fourth position, junior Daniel Sebescen fell to Jacopo Tezza, 1-6, 6-3 (10-2). Sophomore Ken Nakahara fell in his fifth position match to Radu Barbu in two sets, 6-0, 6-3. Senior Dean Wallace secured a win in the sixth position with his win over Jordan Freitas, 6-0, 6-3.
The No. 58 duo of Niland and Browne outlasted Abreu and Freitas in the first position, 9-7. In the second position, Maack and Walalce fell to Cotet and Mlendea, 8-5. Junior John Pettit and Sebescen beat Brink and Tezza, 8-2, in the third position.
The Bears will return home for a match Friday against Washington. The match is slated for a 1:30 p.m. (PST) start at Hellman Tennis Center.
