Men's Tennis Drops Match 6-1 against UCLA

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State men's tennis team dropped their fifth straight match to the No. 9 UCLA Bruins in the Pac-10 opener this Friday at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz. The Sun Devils are 6-10 for the season.

The Sun Devils were swept in the doubles action. Nick Hegarty and Ryan McBride forced their opponents names into a tie breaker, but fell 8-7 (7-2) at the number two spot. TJ Bellama and Mike Beatty also fought a strong match, but could not overcome their opens as they lost 8-6 in the number three spot. In the number one spot, Jonathan Kinsella and Ryan Waits lost their match 8-4 against the Bruins' names.

The singles matches did not fare much better for the Sun Devils as Nick Hegarty was the only Sun Devil to not only win his match, but also to win a set. Hegarty overcame a 6-1 loss in the first set to come back and beat his opponent name 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Both Christopher Biro and McBride were winning early in their first sets, but could not hang on. Biro dropped his match 6-4, 6-2 and McBride lost his 7-6 (3), 6-0.

The Sun Devils continue their weekend at home tomorrow against Pac-10 foe the USC Trojans at 1 p.m. at the Whiteman Center.
