No. 12 Cal Tied for 9th After 2nd Round of Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. - No. 12 California took 10 strokes off of its first-day total and finds itself in a tie for ninth place with North Carolina State Saturday after the second round of the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Championships Course. The Golden Bears carded a 12-over score of 300 today and own a 36-hole mark of 610.

No. 5 Georgia leads the 17-team field by two shots at 591 following the tournament's low round of three-over 291. No. 1 Duke is second at 593, while No. 8 Purdue, the first-day leader, is third at 594. No. 13 Tennessee is fourth (600) and South Carolina rounds out the top five at 604.

Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo faltered in the second round with a score of 77 but still holds a share of first place at even-par 144 with Georgia's Taylor Leon and Tennessee's Nicole Smith. Three golfers are one shot back.

Senior Sophia Sheridan continues to pace all Cal golfers in a tie for 12th at 149. Sheridan and freshman Allison Goodman fired the Bears' low round of the day (74). Senior Sofie Andersson posted a 77 for the second straight day to hold a share of 39th (154). Junior Mika Takayama is tied for 47th (156) after today's round of 75. Goodman is tied for 59th (159) with fellow freshman Shannon Yocum (159).

Sheridan, Andersson and Takayama each sank three birdies today for the Bears, who are the only West Coast team at the competition.

Sunday's final round begins at 5:30 a.m. PT.
