No. 12 Cal Places Ninth at Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. - No. 12 California finished in ninth place with a score of 909 Sunday at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan National Championships Course. The Golden Bears improved each round, capping the tournament with a score of 11-over 299.

No. 5 Georgia claimed first at 11-over 875, while No. 1 Duke placed second at 880 and saw its streak of five straight Bryan National Collegiate titles snapped. No. 8 Purdue finished third at 885. Cal was three shots behind eighth-place Oklahoma State (906) in the 17-team tournament.

Georgia's Taylor Leon won the individual title at three-under 213 after shooting a 69 today. Duke's Amanda Blumenherst grabbed second at 216.

Senior Sophia Sheridan tied for 26th at 226 to pace Cal for the third consecutive tournament. Senior Sofie Andersson tied for 33rd at 228 following a final round of 74. Junior Mika Takayama carded another round of 75 to tie for 44th (231), and freshman Allison Goodman continued to rebound from a poor first round, firing the Bears' lowest round of the tournament today (73) to tie for 49th (232). Goodman paced Cal with four birdies today. Freshman Shannon Yocum tied for 69th (238).

Cal has its final tune-up for the Pac-10 Championships April 8-9 at the Peg Barnard Classic at the Stanford Gold Course.
