No. 2 California Falls Short of Copley Cup Title to No. 4 Stanford

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - In one of the closest races of the regatta, the No. 2 Golden Bears put together a very fast race, but it wasnt enough to win their eight straight Copley Cup. Both Cal and No. 4 Stanford got out to fast starts, but after 1000 meters the Cardinal had a two second lead. The Bears fought hard, but couldnt capture the lead. Stanford defeated Cal by two seconds and the Cal B followed behind nine seconds later and Purdue was 20 seconds out of the lead.

In the JV grand final, the Bears were took a commanding lead from the start, leading thier B boat by three seconds and UC Davis by six seconds after the first 500 meters. The race ended with the Cal A three seconds ahead of the Cal B boat and 25 seconds ahead of UC Davis.

Cal's freshmen eight rowed to an open water vicotry over Stanford and Orange Coast College. The Bears held an one second lead after 500 meters, but openend this lead to four seconds going into the last 500 meters. The Bears finsihed ahead of Stanford, Orange Coast College and Oregon State by 6, 7 and 10 seconds respectively.

The Bears next race at the Stanford Invitational April 14-15, 2006 at Redwood Shores.
