April 3, 2006
Cal freshman Jessica Hardy will begin competition at the FINA Short Course World Championships, Wednesday, in Shanghai, China. Hardy, who recently won the 100-yard breaststroke at the 2006 NCAA Championships, will compete in the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke events this week.
The Short Course World Championships will be contested at Qizhong Stadium in a 25m pool. The meet will run from April 5-9.
Hardy, a native of Long Beach, Calif., is a former world record holder in the 100m breast. She set the mark in the semis at the 2005 World Championships before ultimately finishing second in the finals. She also earned a silver medal in the 50 breast at that meet.
